Logan Hardware Company was founded on February 29, 1904 in Logan, West Virginia. Back in those days, mule trains carried supplies and goods through Southern West Virginia's rugged mountains before the first railroad car was loaded in Logan in September 1904. The store distributed everything from farm equipment, to household goods, to mining supplies. In Logan County, Logan Hardware was the first distributor of this kind. In 1924, an associate company, West Virginia-Kentucky Hardware and Supply Co., was established in Huntington. Four years later this firm was sold, but was reacquired in 1935 as Logan Hardware and Supply Company. During the late 1960's, management abandoned the nuts and bolts approach to products in favor of specialization in product lines for mining, industrial and construction industries. To reflect this shift, the firm adopted the name Logan Corporation on October 6, 1969. In January 1986, Logan Corporation acquired the assets of Sullair Sales and Service, Inc., of Charleston, West Virginia and changed the name to Valley Air, Inc. This subsidiary specializes in sales, rental and service of air compressors, backhoes, pumps, manlifts, excavators and other construction and industrial equipment lines. In May 1989, Logan Corporation was appointed the exclusive distributor in the Continental United States for genuine General Electric Locomotive renewal parts for Mining, Switching, Road Locomotives in industrial applications and Short Line Railroads. In 1997 the agreement was expanded to include Unit Exchange and FDL Engine parts.
